The volcanoes of Costa Rica not only provide beautiful views, but create the ideal microclimates for specialty coffee farmers. Here, coffee has been cultivated for more than two centuries. These elements translate into a sweet and balanced, easy drinking cup. This light roast shines with notes of panela, honey, and a pleasant mandarin orange acidity.

Our El Volcán selection represents the essence of Costa Rica. It’s an origin of more than 120 volcanoes, five of which are active.  For our Costa Rica El Volcan we work with our long-term partners, both family-owned farms and cooperatives. They have all shown quality and consistency over the years, exemplifying the best of this well-known coffee origin.

San Cristobal is located 1.5 hours from San Jose, along the border of the Central Valley and Tarrazu regions. At an altitude of 1400-1700 masl, this small group of 12 producers came together to sell their coffees and improve quality under the name Brisas de San Cristobal. Our team, and more specifically our buyer Josemaria Ruiz, has partnered with these growers since the beginning in 2016. Not only as a roaster partner to sell their coffee, but we also support through regular conversations, visits and support. A true partnership from the start, we have purchased San Crisobal’s coffees each year, seeing the quality improve. These 12 members are motivated coffee pioneers for this area, continually implementing best practices in farming and processing to let their coffees shine.
