Seasonal hunger affects farmers who grow seasonal crops, like coffee. To prevent this, FOOD 4 FARMERS creates sustainable work for coffee farmers to help supplement their income (and dinner tables) all year long. To help bridge this gap, we’re donating $10,000 to support the commercial beekeeping programs in Guatemalan coffee-growing communities.
Why beekeeping? Honeybees pollinate crops and allow farmers to harvest and sell honey during the off-season, creating a consistent source of income. Organic Café La Abeja features coffee from ACODIHUE and Maya Ixil, two cooperatives in Guatemala supporting their members with commercial beekeeping education programs.
