Coffee is the first thing most of us consider each morning. Groggy and just out of bed, we trundle into the kitchen and fumble around for what we need for that first cup. Make your morning routine easier by taking some time to organize and optimize your coffee space. Whether you’re pressed for time and looking to satisfy that AM craving ASAP or a meditative sipper seeking a more manual approach to your coffee, read on for some great ideas. A cozy coffee station requires just a few key items, including a grinder, a brewing device, water kettle, mugs and filters.
Beyond that, you can improvise and make it your own. Just don’t forget the coffee and tea!
Establish Your Coffee Station
The amount of space you have available will determine how extensive your setup can be. Have a spare bit of countertop or maybe a kitchen cart? A spot below your kitchen cabinets?
No matter where you create your coffee nook, be sure you’re positioned close to a power outlet and sink. Oh, and have a compost bin handy so you’re not dripping coffee on the floor as you dispose of filters.
Bring on the Brewing Tools
This comes down to personal preference, but we have a few suggestions to make the most of your morning cup. We’ve included manual and automatic options depending on your orientation.
When brewing coffee, the most important tool on your shelf may be the grinder. Investing in a good burr grinder and grinding your coffee fresh each morning will go a long way toward a more enjoyable cup. Check out our grind guide here.
Fellow Products Ode Brew Grinder (Pictured)
Sleek, attractive and consistent, the Ode Brew Grinder is our favorite for all grind types, from a fine espresso to a coarse French Press. The flat burrs and 31 grind settings provide plenty of options and its modernist aesthetic looks great on the shelf.
Chemex Brewer (Pictured)
The Chemex is a classic. It doesn’t just brew perfect coffee, it stands out from a design perspective, too. It’s an elegant, yet functional, addition to any coffee space and deserves a prime spot in your set-up. Check out our Chemex brew guide here.
Bodum Chambord French Press (Not pictured)
Just like the Chemex, this French press is a classic brewer. So easy, and environmentally-friendly with no paper filters required. Find our French press brew guide here.
Bonavita Gooseneck Kettle (Pictured)
When your preference is pour over, pour control and water temperature are clutch. Gooseneck kettles give you the control you need to bloom. We like this one for its simplicity and quick heating.
And Accessorize Your Nook
Once you’ve laid out your coffee space with the required equipment, it’s time to make it your own. The sky’s the limit here, but don’t go overboard. Things can quickly get cluttered.
Beyond the mugs, spoons and sweeteners, apply a decorative eye to your space. Make sure everything contributes to the overall effect rather than just stacking things up in a corner.
Here are a few accessories we used to build our space, including:
- A mug holder,
- A bamboo container for coffee filters,
- An attractive container for ground coffee,
- And a fun wooden letterboard.
