How To: Grow Your Own Herbal Tea Garden

This summer, we’re planting herb gardens at home, perfect to clip off fresh leafs when you need them, and sparing you from all the waste that can come from buying large bundles at the store. One of our favorite things to do with fresh herbs is to brew our own herbal tea. Starting your own herb garden is easier than you think!

Step One: Find your vessel. You can buy little herb planters, but we love a good upcycle. All you need is a small container for each herb you want to plant, preferably with drainage.

Step Two: Fill with dirt, sprinkle with seeds. We are going with chamomile, lemon balm, mint, and holy basil  – you can find tons of options at your local nursery or garden store.

Step Three: Water and place in the sun. No SPF needed. 😎

Step Four: Wait. Be patient, you’ll start to see a few buds in about 2-3 weeks. They need time for the roots to get established so they are healthy and strong!

Step Five: Once you have some full leafs, harvest them by taking the top stock down to the second set of leave to help encourage them to grow laterally and bush out.

Step Six: Brew your own herbal tea by steeping your little harvest in hot water, just off a boil, for 3-5 minutes. We love to brew chamomile and lemon balm together.

Or, if your thumb is more brown than green, skip the gardening with our selection of herbal teas.
