Our Making Coffee Matter program provides funding to coffee farmers and non-profit organizations that invest in sustainable agriculture, healthcare, education and infrastructure to make a positive impact in their communities. This program’s goal is twofold. First, to educate coffee drinkers about the challenges coffee farmers face. Second, to share the stories of organizations that work to make a positive difference for these people. These win-win partnerships are celebrated with a seasonal rotation of delicious coffees. These coffees honor the communities working together to make coffee that truly matters.

Girls Gotta Run Foundation

For Fall 2018, we’re proud to again feature Ethiopia Rocko Mountain coffee and make a $10,000 donation to Girls Gotta Run Foundation. Girls Gotta Run is a nonprofit dedicated to fostering educational and social growth among young women in Ethiopia. They are the only nonprofit in Ethiopia using the national sport of running as an innovative approach to creating safe spaces, ending child marriage and expanding access to secondary school for vulnerable girls. Their mission is to create long-term paths for self-reliance and financial resiliency.

Through partnerships like ours, Girls Gotta Run Foundation has established scholarship programs in Ethiopia. These programs integrate education, life skills, safe spaces, athletics, savings groups and entrepreneurship to holistically address the diverse challenges facing families in Ethiopia.

A collaboration in coffee

“At Girls Gotta Run Foundation, we are incredibly grateful for and proud of the opportunity to empower girls in collaboration with Allegro,” says Kayla Nolan, Executive Director of Girls Gotta Run. “Our work brings both organizations to coffee growing-regions in Ethiopia. Many of the families we work with grow coffee at their homes. We are proud to be able to bring together two great icons of Ethiopia—coffee and running.”

Ethiopia Rocko Mountain coffee

You can pick up a bag of Ethiopia Rocko Mountain at Whole Foods Market or here in our web store. This coffee is a sun-dried medium roast that hails from a small Ethiopian collective. We’ve partnered with Rocko Mountain for many years. This coffee’s luscious notes of apricot, strawberry and blueberry make it one of our all time favorites.
