The traditional housing and coffee growing motif of our Rwanda coffee bag was designed by Darwin Shema, an artist from the southern Rwandan town of Butare. Darwin’s unique art form includes painting on rocks which makes him quite original.
Brown sugar and honey, crisp acidity and a buttery finish.
Rwanda has gone from being almost unknown in coffee to one of the hottest new specialty origins in the world. Nearly unknown for its coffee a decade ago, Rwanda has quickly become one of the most esteemed growing regions in the world. One taste of our Rwanda Karaba and you’ll understand why. Notes of brown sugar and honey, a crisp, clean acidity, and its rich, buttery finish reflect the varied beauty of this lush African Great Lakes region. Grown on small, garden-like farms that dot the rolling hills around the village of Karaba, the beans are produced by the Koakaka cooperative, who process, evaluate and taste each day’s production to ensure a consistently delicious cup.

This year, Allegro is donating $10,000 to the Koakaka cooperative for technical support and raw materials so the coffee growers can develop a specialty mushroom growing program.  Allegro will assist with the completion of the mushroom program to provide the people of the cooperative with additional income and food.
