The cacao used in Allegro’s Colombian drinking chocolate is grown on the slopes of the Yariquies Mountains. The medium- to small-sized farms in this region support over 12,000 families. Our Colombian drinking chocolate is distinct and fruity with notes of raw almonds, cinnamon and a hint of orange. It’s wonderful paired with pastries, especially those with raisins and nuts.



Organic Costa Rica 30
The cacao used in Allegro’s Costa Rican drinking chocolate comes from a certified organic farm located in the Caribbean lowlands surrounded by pineapple and banana farms 15 kilometers inland from shore. This is a classic milk chocolate, slightly sweet with subtle coffee notes throughout. With a beautiful warm, reddish color, this chocolate makes for a wonderful treat anytime of day.

This wonderful cacao used in our Dominican drinking chocolate is from the Conacado Cooperative, a 9,000-member Fair Trade cacao cooperative and the largest organic Fair Trade co-op in the world. Conacado's farmers are leaders in sustainable farming. Their cacao beans offer a rich, earthy, bittersweet chocolate flavor with subtle notes of nutmeg and clove.

The cacao beans used to make our single origin Ecuador drinking chocolate come from Los Rios. The Los Rios region produces exceptional cacao, often referred to as Arriba (up river). This chocolate features an assertive chocolate flavor with floral notes and citrus rind with a slightly astringent yet balanced finish. The cacao beans produced in this native rainforest are grown next to other native crops such as banana, tangerine and red berry grow which adds to the spectacular diversity of this region.

Allegro’s single origin Ghana drinking chocolate is a result of extremely intense dark chocolate made exclusively from single-source, shade-grown Ghana cacao beans. For generations, the family cacao farms of Ghana have produced beans of wondrous quality. Ghanaian farmers harvest the ripe cacao pods by hand, ferment the beans between banana leaves right on the forest floor and then dry the beans in the warm African sun.

We’ve reconstructed the famous chocolate drink the Mayans and Aztecs may have enjoyed prior to the Spanish introduction of new spices from the East such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Therefore our Mayan drinking chocolate only contains mild sweet chilies, all spice and black pepper creating a wonderfully warming spiciness; this is the ideal cool weather treat for hot chocolate fans and an invigorating beverage any day of the year.

 

Organic Peruvian 68
The cacao used in Allegro’s Peruvian drinking chocolate comes from a co-op centralized in Tingo Maria located at the edge of the Peruvian Amazon and the Apurima Valley of South Peru. The cacao grown in these regions has an upfront sweetness and hint of the bananas and orchids that grow in the area. This drinking chocolate is mild and light in color with a pleasing dry finish. Great with pretzels and salty snacks.
